do you know what the saddest thing was? Hinata confessed to Naruto cause she believed she was going to die. so she thought to herself 'I'm not going to be able to tell him how I truly feel, I'll tell him before I die'. that's what makes that scene so touching and sad.
And if you watch naruto closely you'll see that when hinata gets hurt physically or emotionally he goes ballistic so quickly, he's not even like that with sasuke and sakura. And they kept this consistent from og right through shippuden even fillers. I think that time he said "i actually kinda like, people like you" was very symbolic because i think it shows that he only liked sakura because she liked sasuke it was another outlet for their rivalry. Of coure naruto cares for sakura, but he's not really romantically attached to her you could tell by the way he causally askes her for dates. In a nutshell she's not his type, hinata is, that's what that statement meant. And it makes sense. (THIS IS SPOILER BUT I THINK SHE HAS MODS)
