People who say that it gets boring after the Pain arc don't know what they're talking about. This current arc (I refer to all of this as the War arc personally) is by far the pinnacle of the series. I've seen this series two complete times now (this is my third) and without ruining anything for you, I will say that you'll see a lot of amazing stuff. The abilities, the fights, the people and topics and things involved will be phenomenal.

By episode 250 in shippuden at 1 episode per week Shippuden would have been running for 5 years. With 200 episodes of OG Naruto, that is another 4 years, a 13 year old watching, at that time, would have been 4 when the recap's original episodes aired. For a kid watching it on Saturday morning cartoon, without the budget to buy 500 episodes, a recap would be valid.
