you misunderstood , kakashi is doing the opposite of his father , the white fang chose the comrades over the mission and got got hated for it , kakashi is trying to follow the rules to he dont end up like his father.

its great to see how different Kakashi was back then and how he changed now, you can see how much he picked up from Obito, his philosophy, being late and all that :) not sure if you misunderstood but they said Sakumo, Kakashi's dad, abandoned the mission to save his comrades and for that he was shunned bu everybody and ended up taking his life, thats why Kakashi is all about the rules so that it wont happen to him as well, he views it as negative and a taboo going against the rules :)
