i think it makes sense that he would worry about his friends when having that conversation with erwin. This also adds really good context to why levi behaved the way he did in season 1, when he told eren he had to make the choice to believe in the levi squad or fight back himself when being chased by titans bc levi went through that choice before and it didnt end so well :( also the look he gives petra in season 1 is even sadder now
