The shinobi forces will only get in the way of the 5 kage's fight with madara. They are better suited to take on tobi with superior numbers. Itachi's job in this war is not to save people directly as he said he will stop the reanimation. We know the truth about itachi but MOST of the charecters in the naruto universe do not. How do you think they are going to respond to a criminal showing up?? Itachi never wanted the uchiha name to be tarnished, he WILL NEVER tell the truth about the coup to anyone else. when itachi gets some screen time again, youll love it, so relax.
