Compare Itachi to someone like Kisame, Pain or Madara. Comparing him to Hidan is pointless.

I get what you are saying, however there is a difference. In that it is known that the Akatsuki are actively seeking out the jinchuriki. Meaning Kakashi knows Naruto is a target, and taking out Hidan and Kakazu would mean to protect Naruto. It doesn't necessarily apply to Itachi, since at the time, the Akatsuki were actively seeking the Jinchuriki just yet.

Well pretty sure I can, Kakuzu is still alive and what I meant by "mastermind" is that Kakuzu is sharper than Hidan and he's good tactician as well.

Tobi is amazing. He's probably the most interesting character in the whole series. When he's properly introduced, thats when you know shit is about to really hit the fan and the story escalates.
