If the deathnote happen to not be real, imagine if they all fake doing a heart attack and see what Kira does. Also funny if it turns out one of the team is really bad at acting.
If the deathnote is real and everyone dies, would we see Kira walking in the sunshine with Kira X, holding hands like 'you were more useful than those two girls put together. Who needs a queen when I can have a king!'?

couple of things:
first, after you watch episode 37 I highly recommand you go and read chapters 106-107 of the manga since the anime slightly changed the end to the manga, not something huge but the manga part did it way better
second, there is actually sort of a sequel. the manga has an extra chapter(108) that shows what happened after episode 37 and lately the creators published another 2 new chapters about a new person who gets a death note and although it's very short it's absoulutely brilliant!
about the whole Rewrite\Relight you can ignore those. they are basically 2 specials that recap the whole series. it does contain some new footage(like L's funeral etc) but 90 percent is just the same as the anime
