I think you misunderstand the wording of "they planted Itachi as a spy" the village making him a spy wouldn't change anything about him personally or his blood relation it's like..... hmm it's like if we (and by we I mean I mean the U.S because I live in the U.S) were at war with Russia and one of our soldiers defected but there actually a spy so there actually working for us even though most people don't know they are see nothing personal necessarily changes just because someone's a double agent.
